Gata-Haydarpaşa Eğitim Hastanesi, Hematoloji-Onkoloji Kliniği, İstanbul Fifty two patients with malignancy in advanced stage and 44 healthy individuals as controls were evaluated for a coagulation profile including prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen, fibrin degradation products, platelet count, activated protein C resistance, plasminogen activator-1. None of the patients had clinical or laboratory indications of serious hemorrhage or thrombosis. Fibrinogen, platelet count, prothrombin time, fibrin degration products increased significantly in patients compared to the controls. Although there was no significant difference in plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 levels between two groups, activated protein C resistance was higher in the patient group (25%) than in the control group (6.8%).
